APAN WGs Highlights

Asia Pacific Advanced Network Medical Working Group

The medical working group was established in 2005 and has held various medical sessions at APAN, such as webinars, case conferences, and live demonstrations. In addition, onsite training programs for hospital engineers have been organized during APAN meetings. We have provided tips and techniques for venue setup and troubleshooting for telemedicine conferences in Asia and beyond. APAN is the international partnership of the National Research and Education Networks across the region and has provided high-speed network connectivity. We have taken advantage of this wonderful network to implement high-quality medical education programs. Please visit us and enjoy our activities!

Our recent activities

In APAN 52, hosted by Indonesia in August, we organized 12 sessions, including topics on surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, and cardiology. A total of 128 institutions in 31 countries were connected, mainly in Asia, including Mongolia, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan. The sessions were also streamed on Whova and viewed by 270 people. Special sessions included a report on technical assistance following the COVID-19 and a technical quiz in the engineering workshop. In March 2022, APAN 53 was hosted by Bangladesh, and 17 sessions, including new sessions, such as genetic counseling, traditional medicine, and distance dental education, were held in Medical WG. A total of 110 institutions in 22 countries were connected. We demonstrated Horizon Workrooms, a metaverse communication tool, and participants from Asia expressed their high expectations for international interaction in the virtual reality space.
