APAN-CN

1.Who are you and which organization are you with?
2.How long have you managed APAN-CN?
In 1999, CERNET and CSTNET collaborated to establish APAN-CN and officially joined APAN in the same year. Since then, APAN-CNhas been actively participating in APAN activities to contribute to international cooperation and development between NRENs in the Asia Pacific Region.

CERNET Introduction

China Education and Research Network-CERNET was built in 1994. It was supported and constructed by Chinese government. Tsinghua University and other top universities are responsible for the construction and operation of the CERNET backbone. CERNET is the first national Internet backbone using TCP/IP in China. It is also an important infrastructure of educational informatization in China and an integral part of national informatization infrastructure. After more than 20 years of development, CERNET has become a large scale academic network. CERNET connects more than 2000 organizations, with more than 20 million users, and supporting wide range of major national education and research applications. CERNET2 is a high-performance 100G pure IPv6 architecture with more than 10 million IPv6 users. As for 2021, the 3rd generation of CERNET, Future Internet Technology Infrastructure (FITI), has come into operation, FITI is now under construction and operation by 40 universities in China.

CSTNET Introduction

CSTNET(China Science and Technology Network) is an academic, non-profit research network under the leadership of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, it’s managed and operated by Computer Network Information Center(CNIC) in CAS. CSTNET is the birthplace of the Internet in China, connecting the major scientific research institutions, national research infrastructures, scientific data centers, supercomputing centers and other important scientific research resources in china. It coverage more than 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions nationwide, and there are total of 13 regional sub-centers all around China.

3.What are the significant/outstanding achievements/research/projects under APAN?
APAN-CN representatives had assumed the following positions to contribute to the prosperity and development of APAN:APAN vice Chair and Chair, APAN SEC Branch Office, APAN PC Chair and PC member, Chair of APAN Research Workshop, Chairs of some working groups. And, in the past 25 years, APAN-CN has the honor to host five APAN meetings in China including APAN54 which will be held in August in 2022.

4.What are your plans for APAN-CN?
APAN-CN members CERNET and CSTNET are leaders in the academic Internet field of China, adhere to the integrated development of industry, university and research. APAN-CN has international Internet infrastructure, tens of millions of users, world-class academic engineering teams and Internet enterprises with a market value of 10 billion. APAN-CN will continue to seek new breakthroughs in technology innovation and contribute to Internet development in the Asia Pacific and even the world.

5. How do you think APAN should improve, develop and add to what it does?
APAN has a long history with great influence. In the new stage of Internet development, APAN should shoulder new missions and make new contributions. It is suggested to release technology and product research reports and rankings outside the APAN meeting to seek new development mechanisms with sustainable influence.
