APAN WGs Highlights
Network Engineering Workshop is held in every meeting, and the following engineering topics are discussed for further developments of APAN
(1) Network Technologies with the operation
Network technologies are discussed with the operational experiences:
-Next Generation Infrastructure is one of the hot topics for high-speed networks with cost-effective solution
-Global eXchange Points (GXPs) have been deployed in APAN hubs of good connections with commercial networks
-Deployment of IPv6 technology is lead by CERNET
-Network Performance measurement has been contributed by Internet2, APAN-JP, NSRC, etc.
-Deployment of SDN technology is examined by KOREN engineers
-BGP Routing Security for the operators is defined by MANRS
-Automated operation is being discussed in a subgroup of GNA-G that AARNET and APAN-JP engineers are contributing.
(2) NREN Updates for technology sharings
NREN updates are critical in the Workshop for the enhancements of APAN:
-Updated technologies can be shared by APAN members for further deployments
-Connections among APAN members can be expanded for the network applications
-Network arrangements for mutual backup can be realized
(3) International Network Projects for the collaborations
APAN Consortium doesn't have any budget for the international networking, and the Workshop encourages the International Network Projects to work for APAN regions:
-in 2006, Workshop helped GEANT to deploy TEIN2 network
-in 2017, Workshop agreed to establish Asia-Pacific Ring(APR) network that will be a sub-network of GNA; Asiapacific Europe Ring(AER) followed APR, and GNA was successfully realized.
-in 2021, Workshop focused on brand new ARENA-PAC Project and helped the project leaders collaborate with possible partners.
After the Network Engineering Workshop, the dinner is prepared for further discussion of the Workshop. In 2017, the concept of APR was agreed on the dinner, shown below:
